The East Cut Community Benefit District appreciates your interest in the naming process for Block 3 Park! The public input process for the name is now complete. The East Cut CBD will provide the top two preferred names recommended by the community to the Recreation & Parks Commission for consideration later this summer. The project, proposed for the middle third of the former Temporary Transbay Terminal at Howard and Beale streets, is sponsored by the Office of Community Investment & Infrastructure (OCII), designed by San Francisco Public Works, and will be owned and managed by the San Francisco Recreation & Parks Department once completed.
The community-ranked names for Block 3 Park were presented on April 18, 2023. The ranking of preferred names ended on April 25th.
On Tuesday, April 18th, 2023, The East Cut CBD hosted the second and final community meeting to name Transbay Block 3 Park. At this meeting, The East Cut, San Francisco Public Works, and Office of Community Investment & Infrastructure (OCII) staff presented the park design, provided a project schedule update, described the park naming process thus far, and presented the four community-ranked names for final consideration. At the end of the presentation and a Q&A session, attendees were allowed to advocate for a name. A paper ranking sheet was provided for attendees to rank their #1 name option and a backup name in case of a tie for the #1 ranking. The meeting was hybrid with the ability to attend via Zoom.
Naming ideas for Block 3 Park were accepted between August 9 – 22, 2022.

In presenting and evaluating potential names for the park, The East Cut CBD recommends criteria such as:
- Non-person names that are indicative of
- the history of the neighborhood
- the park’s location
- characteristics of the park’s design
- Person or Persons, that have not otherwise been honored in the naming of a street, public space, or building, that have
- exhibited a longtime commitment of service to the Rincon Hill/Folsom/East Cut area
- lived, worked, or owned a business in the Rincon Hill/Folsom/East Cut Community
- made health, educational, or economic impact in the Rincon Hill/Folsom/East Cut Community
