The San Francisco Bay Trail Project is an ambitious and ongoing initiative to create a continuous 500-mile network of walking and cycling paths that completely encircles the San Francisco and San Pablo Bays. This extensive trail system, envisioned as a “ring around the Bay,” connects 47 cities across all nine Bay Area counties and even crosses seven major toll bridges.  The Bay Trail aims to provide active transportation alternatives for commuters, offer breathtaking viewpoints for wildlife observation, facilitate environmental education, and connect communities to parks, open spaces, and cultural sites along the shoreline.
